Pleasantville PTA Minutes
October 6, 2008
Attendees: Coleen Palmer, Kim Jones, Nicole Green, Peter Leida, Cathy Genery, Shannon Faulk, Cyndie O’Brien, Maria and Raymond Santos, Tina Baevsky, Malinda Hudson, Dondrea Martin, Kristin Hrenko, Dorcia Battin, Michelle Maybroda, Camela Gonzalez, Susana Hernandez, Tina Randolph and Betty McVey
I. Volunteers for Upcoming Events in October
a. Asked for volunteers for cookie fundraiser (Delisheries) and Reading Night.
b. Cookies will be distributed during evening conferences in November.
II. Expenses for Pleasantville PTA
a. Total spent for activities this year is $2,051.26. This included school store, class fees for officers, departure gift for school secretary, welcome back luncheon for teachers and water ice for open house to name a few.
b. A Treasurer’s Report is available upon request for those who did not attend.
III. Introduction of new Student Advisor – Ms Nunville.
a. She gave a brief explanation of her experience and the previous school where she was employed. Her previous students were high school children; however, she is very excited to have an opportunity to work with Elementary students.
IV. PTA Ideas for Pleasantville
a. On Tuesday, October 28th the Christiana Fire Company is coming to the school to teach children fire safety. (October is Childs Health Month.)
b. November is American Indian Month, Thanksgiving, National Family Week 11/23-11/29 and Smart Kids Day.
c. December is Christmas, Kwanzaa and Hanukkah the week of 12/22.
d. The PTA was encouraged to offer celebration ideas for each month. They could be forward to PleasantvillePTA@comcast.net or a note at the office in our box to pick-up. Please remember to provide plenty of time to implement any idea that you have.
V. Events Set-up for October and November
a. Skate Night – 11/17 is $3.00 per child. Looking for volunteers at next meeting on November 5th.
b. Special “Thank You” to Alicia Moore to handling all of our Box Tops and Campbells UPC code. (There is a deposit container in the main lobby area of school.)
VI. Votes
a. School dance for fifth graders – NO. Alternative to that is a movie and a t-shirt that all of their classmates can sign. Also, they can be presented with special academics and Presidential awards.
b. Flu shot clinic at school – NO.
c. Spirit wear – UNDECIDED. Need pricing to make a final vote.
VII. Next meeting date
a. Wednesday, November 5th at 6:00pm at Pleasantville.
b. Each month the meeting will rotate between Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to provide all PTA members an opportunity to attend.
c. Also, in future meetings we will have more entertainment for children and possibly have an adult to take them into the Art Room across the hall from the Library for some activities.
